The Power of Blogs

The great thing about blogs is that they can be about anything and it is a fresh perspective from outside the mainstream. Do you love to travel? Start a travel blog and it becomes your unique view on the topic. For this post I want you to pretend this is your blog. Write a post about a recent experience you had with something you have a strong opinion about. It can be negative or positive. Your post should be 6-10 sentences at a minimum. Compare and contrast what you are writing about with other things similar to your topic. For example: If you are writing about a record from a particular artist, compare it to similar artists or the artists earlier work. Same for restaurants, etc. See examples for ideas. The key is to be passionate.
Ideas:
  1. Movie review - Compare two movies you recently saw and what you like or disliked about them.
  2. Book review - see movie review...
  3. Travel experience
  4. Restaurant review
  5. Fashion review
  6. Technology

  1. In my personal opinion, the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) hasn't done a very good job at adapting the comics into the movies, although it has its own personal charm. There are multiple changes to characters and the backstories (such as portraying Hawkeye as a non-disabled person when in the comics he is deaf, and portraying Spiderman as a 15 year old, rather than a senior in highschool.). Another issue with the MCU is the fact that the movies layer on the angst, creating dark undertones, and while there are brief moments of humor, it still doesn't take away the feeling of extreme seriousness and moodiness, which makes the dialogue and situations seem unrealistic and more like a group of actors speaking from a script. Because of this, I preferred Thor Ragnorak and all Marvel movies after it, because Ragnorak set a precedent that had never been seen in the MCU before: lots of humor, as well as realistic sibling interaction and a major plot twist. This movie has set an example for the ones that followed, so movies like Black Panther and Ant-man and The Wasp are more enjoyable than Marvel movies like Age of Ultron or Iron Man 3, which had predictable storylines and an incredible amount of angst.

    1. I'd also like to add that character erasure in the film was also prominent with the first Deadpool movie, where his pansexuality went unmentioned and the movie makers portrayed him as a straight man. Fortunately for the LGBTQA+ community, it was more referenced in the second movie, allowing for big screen representation of a minority group in a popular franchise.

  2. In my opinion the movie "The Hate U Give" was excellent. It showed real world issues like racism. It shows that racism is still relevant today and that it is always happening even when you don't see it. It also shows that you should always stand up for what you think is right even though you might get hated for it. The way the movie dealt with these issues was very good, they showed that it doesn't matter the age you are you can still be faced with these issues. In this film they did not sugar coat anything, this was good because some kids don't know what is going on in the world r even if they do they don't know how extreme it is. The movie also shows that everyone has a voice and should use. Also it shows how society can negatively affect your life. This movie was an excellent way to show the youth the real issues in society

    1. I completely agree. The Hate U Give is a great way to show the youth the real issues in society. Your explanation of why it shows the youth real issues in society is something that I also agree on.

    2. I strongly agree with Danielle. "The Hate U Give" was an influence to many people about racism. I've diffidently learned a lesson from that movie. It's wicked that people have the time to compare/make fun of other people color skin. This film in the future or now will give younger people in the world to speak up. Basically "Speak that's right."

  3. In my opinion Shane Dawson, his personality, what he does, and what he puts into his videos, is underrated. Most people may know him as a Youtuber that does many conspiracy videos and documentaries. But I feel like people don't look deep into his conspiracy videos and concentrate . In his most recent documentaries he gets on the topic of human trafficking. Human trafficking is a very serious topic and Shane Dawson put it in his video because I feel like he is trying to spread awareness to stop it. In the documentaries of Jake Paul and Jefferey Starr he showed that these people you see as "rich and famous" have a heart and emotions. Shane's documentary with Tana Mongeau also touches on that topic but it also shows that humans are not perfect and they make mistakes. In my opinion Shane is making these videos for teens and his fan base to show all of the problems in the world and trying to fix these problems so that those who are younger may even have the chance to change the world themselves.

    1. I couldn't agree more. Shane is an inspiration to so many. He doesn't judge someone by what he sees of them online. Instead, he gets to know them and let's us see the side of them that they don't normally put online. Allowing us to form more accurate assessments of their personality.

    2. I strongly agree with your opinion, Shane Dawson isn't like almost every other influencer who puts out stupid content, he trys to make a difference and he helps show the world the otherside of other influencers like jake paul, he uses his platform to make a change. We as his fans look up to him and he makes us want to go out into the world and make a change, he also shows us that it is okay to be who we want to be and do what we want to do.

  4. About a month or so ago my father and I went to a kosher restaurant called "Carlos and Gabby's."Now the only reason that we went to a kosher place was because all the other restaurants were closed. We've eaten kosher food before since we live in a neighborhood where it is mainly kosher food. Anyways as we entered I noticed that it was pretty empty, but again it was night time.So as we approach to the front we had to order up at the register which I found odd since it was a restaurant; I ordered a burrito and my dad ordered soup. My father and I sit in the table and the table is filthy;there was dirty napkins all over and cums on the seat. That was the first major turn off, but at the time I was just so hungry that I didn't even cared. We got the dirty napkins and rums off. Time goes on and it's been about 30 minutes I would say so I decide to go wash my hands because the food should be coming any minutes. I go to open the door and when I go inside there is used toilet paper on the floor, stains of God knows what, and there was a broken chair in there. I immediately washed my hands and came out. Long story short the food was not even good it tasted like it had been microwaved and it took 30 minutes to be prepared ad my fathers soup didn't even have anything in it, when he ordered a steak soup. I just think that this particular "Carlos and Gabby's" should go out of business.

  5. In my opinion, "Crazy Rick Asians" is an awesome movie. It is about a woman who falls in love with a man and she doesn't know he is rich. One day they visit his family in Singapore for a wedding. The man's family is cruel to her and make her feel worthless. The man's mother finally admits to her that her treated her the way she did because is american and "of the middle class". I think this is important because it shows that anyone can be racist for whatever reason. Yes, the mother and the main character are both Asian, but the main character was born in america. For that reason, the mother was racist. The movie also establishes how someone can grow and develop after these situations. The main character found that she is strong an independent. So she stood up to her and succeed. "Crazy Rich Asians" is a great movie that I highly recommend!!!
